DUI checkpoint Friday night

The Morgan Hill Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint May 29, starting at 6pm and continuing to 2am May 30. The checkpoint will take place at an undisclosed location in the city limits.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, says a press release from MHPD. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

MHPD reminded the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by the California Highway Patrol Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program.
