After being swept in its season-opening doubleheader, the Morgan Hill Mudcats semi-pro baseball club turned the tables the following weekend by sweeping a doubleheader itself.

The MoHill Mudcats, as they are generally known, began their season by dropping a pair to the Fontanetti Athletics at Live Oak High on June 5. The Mudcats lost the opener 11-7, and fell in the nightcap 5-3.

Last weekend, MH got back to .500 by doubling up on the East Bay Giants, winning the opener 7-4 and cruising to a 12-2 victory in the second game.

In the opener, MH pitcher Adam Paredes struck out 17 in a complete-game win. Paredes, from Stanislaus State, is in his second year with the Mudcats. In the second game, first-year Mudcat pitcher Anthony D’Albora also threw a complete game.

Offensively, a pair of Upper Iowa University products, Scott Perkins and Shannon Fernandez, provided extra base power, with Perkins slamming two doubles and Fernandez adding a triple.

Former Hollister Angel and Hayward State star Matt Morgan also chipped in a double for MH. Recent Live Oak Graduate Gonzalo Naranjo added five hits in the doubleheader, while former LO and Gavilan standout Matt Hernandez also chipped in with four hits, including a single and a double in Game 2.

The Mudcats, who play all their games on Sundays with home games at Live Oak, have a bye this week. MH (2-2) goes on the road to take on the Seaside Bombers on June 26. The team’s next home game is set for July 10 against the San Jose Braves.
