After going winless in its inaugural season last year, the
Morgan Hill varsity boys lacrosse club team is playing on a whole
new level this year. On Saturday, the local team picked up it
fourth victory of the season with an 8-6 win over Granite Bay of
Sacramento at Cal State Monterey Bay. MH (4-5 overall) was led by
Josh Gouveia
’s hat trick (three goals) in the victory. Even more
significantly for the program, though, was the fact that its
varsity girls team and JV boys squad – both in their first year –
also won on Saturday.

Even more significantly for the program, though, was the fact that its varsity girls team and JV boys squad – both in their first year – also won on Saturday.
The MH girls (5-1-1 overall) hosted a round-robin competition at Live Oak High, and emerged with wins against the Burlingame Coyotes 7-1 and Granite Bay 8-3.
And, the JV boys earned their first win of the season, beating Granite Bay 6-2 behind a hat trick by Jeff Leung at CSUMB.
The Morgan Hill Lacrosse Club has a total of 73 athletes participating this season, including boys and girls ranging in age from junior high to 12th grade.
The boys varsity and JV teams are coached by Brian Oliver, and assisted by Marcine Wheatfall, while the varsity girls team is coached by Amber Phillips.
Coach Oliver brought lacrosse to Morgan Hill last year when he started teaching at Live Oak. After sparking an interest in the sport, he had about 50 boys come out for the first-year team last season.
All prospective players are invited to participate in the Live Oak High Sports Camp’s lacrosse session this summer from July 11-16.
This week, the MH boys varsity lacrosse team will host City Lacrosse on Saturday at 3:30pm at Live Oak. The JV boys team will play the West Valley Red Hawks at Los Gatos High on Wednesday at 5pm and host the Coyotes on Saturday at 1pm.
