Three members of Lana Wright Dancers won top honors at a regional dance competition in San Jose recently. Tori Evans, 16, Dani Gnibus, 13 and Chloe Townsend, 11, were selected as senior, teen and junior “Magic Performers of the Weekend” respectively, at a competition Jan. 23 to Jan. 25. Evans won the teen performer title last year and Gnibus was named junior performer two years ago. This marks the first time the studio has had multiple “Magic Performers of the Weekend” and the first time it has had winners in each category. The girls were selected based on their performances in the overall competition, participation in various convention classes and auditions in ballet and jazz. The three girls will be eligible to compete for the title “Magic Performer of the Year” at LA Dance Magic’s National Finals this summer in Anaheim.
Lana Wright Dancers’ competition teams also took many top honors at LA Dance Magic. The 57-member team debuted its 2009 competition routines, entering 22 dances and winning 20 platinum medals and two high-gold medals. Additionally, the dancers took four overall awards:
Three Wishes – Jr. Overall Duo/Trio
Willy Wonka’s Cry Baby – Jr. Overall Group
Choo Choo Cha Boogie – Jr. Overall Line
Cotton Club – Teen Overall Extended Line
Lana’s Cotton Club number was also selected to perform in the faculty show at the close of the competition. Lana Wright Dancers was founded more than 25 years ago and has consistently scored in the overalls every year at LA Dance Magic and in every event in which it has competed.
