Morgan Hill Unified School District is considering full-day transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten for the 2015-16 school year, according to a March 30 announcement made on the district website.
District TK and kindergarten teachers came to a consensus at the end of January to implement the full-day program next school year, according to the district.
The district currently has full-day kindergarten programs at PA Walsh, Barrett and Jackson Academy, and half-day programs at its other elementary school sites.
“Full-day kindergarten provides an essential bridge between prekindergarten and the primary grades,” the announcement states. “It enables children to develop the academic, social and emotional skills they need to be successful. By laying a strong foundation, a full-day program can close achievement gaps and boost student performance, access and attainment later in school.”
District staff and the Morgan Hill Federation of Teachers are discussing the implementation of the full-day program, according to the district, which plans to provide additional information this spring before the end of the school year.
For more information, the district is instructing parents to speak with the principal at their child’s school or call Arlene Machado, MHUSD’s director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, at (408) 201-6072 or email
