Former Live Oak High cheerleader Kristen Blair Barge was selected as one of 40 women who make up the 2005 “Football’s Fabulous Females” for the Oakland Raiders Football Team. Barge was chosen from a group of more than 400 women participated in the preliminary auditions for an opportunity to become a Raiderette.

Barge, whose sister Meredith is currently a Live Oak varsity cheerleader, was formerly a member of both Lana’s Dance Studio and the Morgan Hill Dance Studio.

“I am so happy that I can continue my love for dance and represent a great football team such as the Oakland Raiders as a Raiderette,” Barge said.

The candidates selected to become a Raiderette were judged in several areas, including beauty, intellect, personality, and dance.

They were also judged in six different categories, including a personal interview, and had to perform a final dance routine, which they had to learn during the week.

Most of the applicants have an extensive background in dance, which required the judges to look at more than just performance ability during the interview portion of the audition.

Each candidate is evaluated individually while responding to questions regarding character, personal goals, and what she would uniquely contribute to the Raiderette squad, ensuring the Silver and Black’s image of Pride and Poise extends throughout the organization and community.

Barge has been dancing for 20 years and will graduate from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater, Dance and Performance Studies with an emphasis in Modern Dance this month.

Barge has lived in Morgan Hill for 14 years, and attended Nordstrom Elementary, Martin Murphy and Live Oak High. She started dancing when she was two years old and learned to be in front of crowds during dance events, baton twirling, karate, gymnastics, junior varsity and varsity cheerleading, and performances at the Center for Performing Arts in San Jose.

More recently, she lived in South Korea and taught young children to speak English, dance and cheer.

Barge recently traveled to Hawaii with the Raiderette squad where she was photographed for the 2006 Raiderette calendar, which will be on sale at the Oakland Raiders games and retail stores throughout the Bay Area.

Barge is scheduled to attend a Morgan Hill Charter School fundraiser on June 5, where she and three other Raiderettes will be on hand to do a routine and sign autographs.
