Argument between woman and boyfriend escalates into violence
A Morgan Hill woman was arrested after she allegedly attempted to run down her former boyfriend in a car, according to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. Joe Sampson.
Sue Saign, 23, was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for alleged assault with a deadly weapon early Wednesday morning.
Sampson said the incident began in the parking lot near the Courtyard Marriott Hotel on Madrone Parkway shortly after midnight on April 12.
Saign and Christopher Smith, 20, of Morgan Hill, were allegedly having a conversation that developed into an argument, Sampson said, when Smith told Saign he wanted to break up with her. As the argument escalated, Sampson said, Smith called a female friend who came to take him to his home on Peak Avenue.
The female friend dropped Smith off and was leaving as Saign arrived at the residence. Sampson said the former couple began arguing in the street in front of Smith’s home, then Saign allegedly got in the car and accelerated towards Smith.
Smith escaped by jumping over a concrete wall, Sampson said, and came back on the street behind the car.
Saign allegedly reversed the car towards Smith at a high rate of speed, and Smith once again escaped by jumping out of the path of the vehicle. The two began arguing again.
Meanwhile, Sampson said, Smith’s father, who was inside the residence, heard the yelling and the noise of the vehicle as Saign allegedly sped forward and back, and he called police.
When officers arrived, Saign refused to give a statement, Sampson said, saying she didn’t remember what happened. She was arrested without incident.
Sampson said, though a blood sample was taken, it was not clear if Saign was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
