Local Rotarians will participate early today in Mervyns annual ChildSpree to help low-income children in need of clothes for school this fall.

The Cochrane Road Mervyns is expected to open its doors to more than 50 underprivileged children who will need the clothing and school items to return to the classroom with confidence.

ChildSpree participants receive a $100 shopping spree to purchase new clothes, shoes and accessories for back-to-school – a childhood tradition they might not otherwise have. Spree recipients will be accompanied by volunteers, make their clothing selections and receive a 15 percent discount on all purchases. Nonprofit agencies and schools partner with Mervyns to select participants.

As part of its ChildSpree program, Mervyns stores

feature limited-edition merchandise for $5 each, with 100 percent of the net profits benefiting children participating in ChildSpree.
