Playing its seventh game of the weekend, a tired MH team couldn’t quite pull off the upset in the final against a very hot Campbell Crush team that went undefeated in the tournament. So, the Pride 12U Gold settled for second place in the 11-team field.

Following are a few of the tourney results:

Pride 12U Gold 6, San Carlos Force Black 4

Led by the Pride pitching debut of Yessi Ceja and the strong hitting of Erin Leggett and others, the Gold won this game in a last inning thriller. Only a spectacular play by Kelly Henningsen, who made a diving play for the last out to stop the Force runners on second and third from tying the game.

Pride 12U Gold 7, San Mateo Slammers Black 6

Henningsen went the distance in this thriller and scored the winning run from third in the bottom of half of the last inning to secure the win. Nestle Combs had an outstanding game behind the plate.

Sunday (semifinals): Pride 12 U Gold 11, Las Gatos Magic 6

Down 5-2 going into the fourth inning, the Pride Gold bats came alive for a six-run rally to take the lead for good. Erin Leggett led the way with key hits, as did Chelsea Tumura to extend the rally. Key defensive plays by Shante Cerniglia, Annika Camacho and Kelli Lima kept the Magic at bay. Henningsen went the distance to secure her second win of the tournament.

Pride 10U Gold

In its second tournament of the year, at the Slugfest, the 10U Gold was extremely competitive in five games over three days. The Pride beat the Quicksilver Black 7-0 and the Los Gatos Magic 15-3, and lost close games against the San Mateo Slammers 7-6 and Santa Cruz Dream 4-3. With a shot at third place going into the final rounds, the 10U Gold was sent home after a 12-3 loss to the Quicksilver Red, an upper division team. Pitcher Amber Moore averaged nine strikeouts per game in the tourney.
