Playing section tourney host at Morgan Hill’s Britton Middle School, the MH Pinto A team came all the way back through the loser’s bracket to make the double-elimination tourney’s finale against San Jose PAL.
Led by a combined no-hitter from the trio of Josh Alaniz, Michael Porras and Mark Quimby, the MH A squad won 4-0 on Thursday to set up an “if-necessary” game last night against SJ PAL for the section title.
Results were not available at press time.
Meanwhile, the MH Gold squad also advanced through the loser’s bracket at the Blossom Valley Sectional Tournament at Calero School in San Jose, setting up a rematch against tourney host Blossom Valley No. 1 for the section championship.
But the MH Gold team lost to BV No. 1 on Thursday to take second place in the tourney.
In earlier tourney play at Britton, the MH A team ended up eliminating the MH Grey team 8-2 on Monday.
The MH A team went on to beat Seaside 15-5 on Tuesday and San Jose Pacific 10-0 on Wednesday to advance to the final series.
In tourney play at Calero, the MH Gold team advanced to its section finale with a thrilling 6-5 comeback victory over Blossom Valley No. 2 in extra innings on Wednesday.
MH’s Justin Dzuiba smacked a single to left to drive in the winning run in the eighth inning.
The victory, which qualified MH Gold for regional tourney play, also avenged an earlier loss by a fellow MHPB all-star squad – the MH Green – which was eliminated in its third-round matchup with BV No. 2.
The MH gold team dropped into the loser’s bracket after an 11-1 loss to BV No. 1 on Monday.
