Three of four Morgan Hill Pony Baseball Mustang division all-star teams stayed alive through the first two rounds of Sectional Tournament play last weekend. And, two of those teams – the Mustang A and Mustang Gold – advanced in the winner’s bracket at their respective tourneys.

At Britton Middle School in Morgan Hill, the Mustang A squad began its all-star journey with a bang, blasting Daly City 15-0 in its opener on Saturday. The Mustang A’s pitchers Jackson Gion and Andres Bueno collaborated on a no-hit shutout in the win, which was finished after four innings due to the 10-run rule. Mustang A’s Tommy Naranjo (3-for-3, three RBIs, four runs scored), Mitch Hickey (3-for-3, two doubles, and RBI and three runs scored) and Bueno (3-for-4, double, two RBIs, two runs scored) led the way offensively.

Meanwhile, the Mustang Gold squad also moved up in the winner’s bracket, stacking up a couple of wins at the San Jose Sectional at Hammer Park. The Mustang Gold defeated San Jose Pacific 10-6 on Saturday and beat Blossom Valley 9-6 on Sunday.

In Saturday’s defeat of San Jose, the Mustang Gold was led by starter Sean Silveira, who pitched three solid innings and added a key base hit during a 3-run second inning which put MH in the lead and helped assume control of the game.

Also joining the attack was Aaron Armijo, who added a pair of run-scoring hits and also closed out the game on the mound with three innings during which he piled up seven strikeouts.

In Sunday’s victory over Blossom Valley, the tandem of Silveira and Armijo were once again on display for the Gold.

The Gold advances to play the San Jose sectional’s other undefeated team, tourney favorite Los Altos, on Wednesday at 5:30pm.

Remaining in the hunt at the San Jose sectional after dropping its opener to San Jose Pacific No. 1 16-6 on Saturday, the Mustang Green team won its first loser’s bracket game on Sunday, beating Lakewood 11-1.

Green’s Mitchell Pasek pitched the entire game, striking out seven batters, nearly half the batters he faced. Adrian Garcia led the offensive charge with a three-run homer.

The Green plays Blossom Valley No. 3 today at 5:30pm at Hammer Park.

Finally, the Mustang Gray team was eliminated on Sunday after its second loss in the Britton sectional.

On Saturday, the Gray dropped a 7-5 decision to San Jose PAL despite two hits each from Patrick Hanne and Andrei Arroyo.

On Sunday, the local all-star team came out flat, falling behind by 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 13-3 loss to Fremont.
