SAN JOSE – Both Morgan Hill teams in the Pinto Regional baseball tournament held at Dartmouth School finished their season with 1-2 records.

The National A team defeated the American team to start the tournament, but then lost the next two games.

After losing to the National team, the Americans defeated South San Francisco before losing to Terra Hills. The Regional championship game is Wednesday.

National 8, American 2

The Nationals jumped out quickly with five runs in the first inning and lead the whole way. Nelson Pyle’s leadoff triple set the pace for the Nationals. Andreas Bueno, Joey Pearson, Kevin Nielson and Mitch Hickey knocked in runs. Hickey, Bueno and Pyle combined for eight strikeouts.

Defensively, Mitch Crawley, Nielson, Bueno, Pearson and Hickey came up with key putouts to help the Nationals.

The Americans scored runs on hits by Jackson Gion and Ryan Mitchell. The team loaded the bases but was unable to score. Jayson Smith had three hits for the Americans, and Sean Schlaefli had a strong performance on the mound.

Pleasant Hill 6, American 0

Hickey and Bueno pitched strong for the National squad. Pyle and Nielson had the only hits for Morgan Hill.

Morgan Hill was able to get several runners on with walks, but Pleasant Hill came up will several key defensive plays, Defensive Bueno, Crawley, Nielson, Pyle and Hickey were strong in the field.

Orangevale 13, American 1

Orangevale came out hitting through out line up to eliminate the Morgan Hill American team from the tournament. Pyle, who had two hits, scored Morgan Hill’s only run in the first inning, but the Americans couldn’t get anything after that. Nielson, Bueno and Persons also added hits for Morgan Hill.

National 7, S. San Fran. 6

The Morgan Hill American All-Stars showed resilience in battling back from a three-run deficit to eliminate a scrappy team from South City.

Taylor Turnipseek delivered the go-ahead RBI single to cap the comeback, while Jackson Gion struck out five of the six batters he faced to close out the game.

Terra HIlls 10, National 0

The team from Tara Hills in Pinole ended the tournament run for the Morgan Hill American All-Stars.

Tough pitching and a hard-hitting offense sent the Americans to an elimination defeat. Smith managed the only hit for the Americans as the Tara Hills defense and pitching consistently stopped any American comeback attempt. A game ball was awarded to Nick Giordano for his valuable play during the post-season.

The Morgan Hill American All-Stars finished the post-season with a 5-2 record and were the Pinto Sectional Champions for 2003.
