The Morgan Hill Community Foundation recently awarded six grants
totaling $4,350 to charitable organizations throughout the
foundation
’s service area which encompasses the Morgan Hill Unified School
District boundaries.
The Morgan Hill Community Foundation recently awarded six grants totaling $4,350 to charitable organizations throughout the foundation’s service area which encompasses the Morgan Hill Unified School District boundaries.

The grants promote efforts that make a positive impact on the lives of those in the community within the foundation’s six focus areas: Arts and culture, recreation, education and lifelong learning, health and human services, science and technology, and environment and agriculture. The grants were awarded to:

Emergency Housing Consortium, Inc. ($1,000): To help fund supplies and materials for the Artistic Heritage Project that serves Children from low-income families at the Boccardo Family Living Center in San Martin. The program teaches Mexican folk art to 85 youths and their families.

The Learning and Loving Center ($1,000): To fund supplies and materials for the Early Childhood Education Program that provides low-literacy learners with language and preschool skills to better prepare them for elementary school.

The center is a women-focused organization with on site childcare that provides educational services to over 250 immigrant women and children.

Upward Bound Youth ($800): To purchase textbooks for the James Ranch for boys Horticultural Program that will complement their refurbished greenhouse facilities. The Ranch is part of the Santa Clara County Probation Department and serves 60 to 70 young men ages 12 to 18 years.

Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center ($1,000): To fund nine sessions through the center’s Educational Program that promotes respect for animals, environment and appreciation for local heritage. The program will target all six title one schools throughout the Morgan Hill Unified School District.

South Valley Symphony ($250): To purchase concert music for a community concert on April 9. The concert is expected to draw 300 people with 45 musicians performing.

South Valley Youth Orchestra ($300): To purchase or rent sheet music for the June 2005 concert. The Youth Orchestra consists of approximately 50 musicians ranging in age from 10 to 18 years.

The Morgan Hill Community Foundation is committed to enriching the quality of life for the greater Morgan Hill area residents by awarding discretionary grants to charitable organizations, that support valuable programs and activities. Grants are available and awarded twice a year in the fall and spring.
