The Charter School Cheetahs boys soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games last week with a 4-1 win at San Juan Bautista and a 1-1 tie at home against unbeaten Spring Grove of Hollister.

Playing at San Juan, Jacob Montoya started the scoring for the Cheetahs by blasting a rocket past the San Juan keeper in the seventh minute. San Juan tied it shortly thereafter on a nice breakaway and shot into the corner of the net. In the second half, Charter midfielder Gabriel Reyes sent a perfect corner kick into the penalty area which was headed into the net again by Montoya, who had slipped free from the San Juan defenders. Reyes then connected on a nice goal shortly thereafter to make the score 3-1 and give the Cheetahs some breathing room. The Cheetah defense and midfield controlled the game with well-placed passing throughout the field. Kolby Nelson, Gilbert Diaz, Casey Heath and Renzo Segovia solidified the Cheetah defense while Michael Garrett and Bryan Gillispie helped control the ball in the midfield. Montoya scored again for his hat trick to put the game out of reach at 4-1. Logan Hinkle made many saves in goal for the Cheetahs.

Playing their next match at home against unbeaten Spring Grove, the Cheetahs scored early on when Jacob Montoya received a nice pass in the midfield and broke free through the Spring Grove defenders. He slipped the ball past the charging Spring Grove goalkeeper for a 1-0 Cheetah lead. The two teams played a great defensive match throughout the game, then with about five minutes remaining in the second half, Spring Grove scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out, a shot just over the head of the Cheetah goalkeeper. Gabriel Reyes and Bryan Gillispie controlled the center of the field for the Cheetahs, with help from wings Michael Garrett, Logan Hoshiko, Arun Durvasula and McKay Lance. Cheetah keeper Kolby Nelson played a great game in goal.

Vincent Czeropski scored his fourth goal of the season as the Predators, coached by Morgan Hill’s Greg Majjassie, skated to a 1-1 tie against the Oilers in a U10 game last Saturday at the Rollin Ice facility in San Jose. Czeropski, receiving the puck on an outlet pass in the defensive zone, skated up the ice and stickhandled through several Oiler defenseman before getting the Oilers goalie to go down on a fake, then patiently lifted the puck high over the goalie’s stick-side and into the net for his fourth goal of the season. The Oilers came back later to tie the game, and each team played tight defense the rest of the way to settle for the tie.
