City Manager Ed Tewes not sure if position will be filled
Morgan Hill – Morgan Hill’s Assistant City Manager Melissa Stevenson Dile has been appointed as the new deputy city manager for the City of Fremont.
Dile will begin her post June 26. She replaces Assistant City Manager Lynn Macy, who retired in December, 2005 after five years of service to the City of Fremont and 30 years in public service.
Dile was chosen after an extensive executive search process. She has worked with the City of Morgan Hill since 1991 in a variety of capacities including acting human resources director, as well as overseeing the city’s information technology services. Dile was chosen to participate in the Management Talent Exchange Program sponsored by the Santa Clara County and San Mateo County City Managers’ associations and worked with the Santa Clara Valley Water District on performance management, legislative initiatives and communications for that agency.
“She was my right arm, my go-to person. She was just outstanding, a professional and I’m so proud of her for taking on this new assignment,” said Morgan Hill City Manager Ed Tewes. “She’s demonstrating she has the capabilities to work at a high level. It’s Fremont’s gain and our loss.”
Dile’s last day with the city is June 9. Tewes said city officials will consider their financial outlook during Friday’s day-long budget session to decide whether to replace her. “If we’re going to have a minimalist government, I’m not sure if we’re going to fill the position,” Tewes said.
She holds a master’s degree in public administration from San Jose State University, and a bachelor’s degree in history and government from Mills College.
Fremont City Manager Fred Diaz said, “Melissa brings a strong background in public service to the Fremont City Manager’s Office. She has a deep understanding, and appreciation, of the value of customer service both to the community and within our organization, and will be an exceptionally valuable addition to the Fremont staff.”
Dile will be a member of the city’s executive team and will oversee the human resources, information systems and city clerk departments.
When asked about her appointment, Dile said, “The City of Fremont has an outstanding reputation as an innovative and highly professional organization, and I am honored to join the management team.”
Dile is married with one child.
