The MHPB Mustang “A” 10-year-old team won the tournament hosted by San Jose Pacific Pony Baseball at Hammer Field in San Jose.

Morgan Hill breezed through the winner’s bracket by outscoring its first three opponents by a combined 39-5.

In the finals versus Lakewood, Morgan Hill pounded the opposition from Sunnyvale 13-0.

The team was led by tournament MVP Mark Quinby, who hit two home runs and pitched four scoreless innings. Other top performers included Ben Hughes, who struck out eight batters in three innings and drove in four runs in the semifinals. Mike Porras pitched three scoreless innings, as did Alejandro Torres and Josh Alaniz.

In addition to Quinby and Hughes, other offensive standouts included Torres, who had seven hits over the four-game tournament. Bradley Higgins and Josh Alaniz had five hits each, Domenic Zanotto reached base in all eight plate appearances and scored six runs and Jack Affourtit chipped in four hits and scored six runs.

Ethan Cox, Patrick Muller, Ryan Quadros and Mark Aguirre added key hits and performed solidly in the field for Morgan Hill.

Pony

The MHPB Pony “A” Memorial team won the Seaside tournament with a 5-0 record.

The tournament started with a 13-6 win over Soledad. Brett Newton hit a two-run triple and Kolby Rousseu, Richie Martinez, Brett Fuller and Marc Rauschnot had two hits each.

Kevin O’Rourke pitched the first two innings before Fuller threw four innings of relief and Brodie Christman closed the game.

Morgan Hill then routed Lafayette Blue 10-0 in a five inning game.

Rousseu doubled, Martinez had two hits and Christman, Rauschnot, Billy Berry and Nick Pusateri all had hits.

Christman, Martinez and O’Rourke combined on a no-hitter.

In the third game of the tournament, Morgan Hill gutted out a 3-1 win over Martinez.

Rousseu had two hits and Max Crowley, Martinez, Fuller, Rauschnot and O’Rourke all had hits. O’Rourke allowed no hits over the first three inning, Christman gave up one hit over two inning and Fuller earned the save with two hitless innings to close the game.

The tournament playoff were Monday and Morgan Hill again faced a tough team but earned a 4-1 win over the Soledad Diablos.

Martinez was solid on the mound for the first five inning and Fuller closed out the game again to earn his second straight save.

Fuller also homered in the game. Newton was 3-for-3, Rosseu doubled twice and Martinez, O’Rourke and Berry all had hits.

Morgan Hill ended the game on a 4-6-3 double play from Martinez to Christman to O’Rourke.

In the championship game, Morgan HIll met up again with Lafayette Blue in another close game, but earned an 8-4 victory.

Christman pitched the first five inning, following by an inning from O’Rourke and two innings from Fuller.

O’Rourke delivered the big blow with a three-run double and also had a single.

During tournament play, Morgan Hill executed three squeeze plays and had no errors in the final two games. Fuller received the MVP/Sportsmanship award for his outstanding pitching during the tournament.
