Dear Editor,
I agree with Lisa Pampuch that the Measure A half-cent sales tax is a bad deal. The use of this money is not specified and can therefore be used for anything the politicians de jour would like including schmoozing their largest campaign contributors. They say “trust us.” What a novel approach. That’s what they said when they wanted to open San Jose’s Kirby Canyon dump north of Morgan Hill. “It will never be visible from the valley floor.” South County has been living with this eyesore ever since. One thing you can trust is that the money won’t be spent in South County. I’m surprised merchants haven’t complained that they will have to charge the highest sales tax in California. This will no doubt drive big ticket buyers out of county or to the Internet. Having hung around for a number of years, my advice is the next time a politician asks you to “trust me,” run quick and get your back against a wall.
