Morgan Hill City Council Chamber

Morgan Hill’s two new city council members and city treasurer, as well as the re-elected mayor, will be sworn in at an inauguration ceremony at 6pm Dec. 11 at council chambers at 17555 Peak Ave.

Sworn in will be Mayor Mark Turner, Council member-elect Miriam T. Vega for District A, Council member-elect Soraida Iwanaga for District C and City Treasurer Cinty Rogers Murphy. All four were elected—and re-elected in Turner’s case—in the Nov. 5 election.

“This (Dec. 11) special event will mark the swearing-in of our re-elected mayor and newly elected city council members and treasurer while also serving as an opportunity to honor and bid farewell to our outgoing council members and treasurer for their dedicated service to our community,” says an email invitation from the city.

The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office is expected to certify the results of the election on Dec. 5. The final unofficial results, with all ballots from the Nov. 5 election counted, are posted on the registrar’s website.

Turner won re-election to his second term with 12,284 votes, according to the registrar. Yvonne Martinez Beltran received 8,785 votes for mayor. Martinez Beltran represents District B on the city council.

In the Morgan Hill City Council District A election, Vega won with 2,551 votes. David Dindak received 2,041 votes for the District A seat.

For District C, Iwanaga received 2,298 votes, to 1,904 ballots for candidate Michael Orosco, says the registrar’s website.

Rogers Murphy ran unopposed for the city treasurer’s office.

Following the Dec. 11 city council swearing-in ceremony, light refreshments and dessert will be served, offering the public a chance to connect with the city council, city leadership and community members.

The registrar’s unofficial results also confirm the election victories of three new candidates for the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Trustees: Jennifer Marquez, Rebecca Munson and Veronica Andrade.
