Martin Murphy Middle School and Los Paseos Elementary School were each awarded $20,000 from the City of San Jose’s District 2 Participatory Budgeting process, according to an Aug. 23 announcement from Morgan Hill Unified School District.
San Jose District 2 community members submitted projects to the City of San Jose that would create positive improvements within their neighborhoods. Martin Murphy and Los Paseos parents banded together to submit a proposal that would benefit both schools.
Los Paseos will use the grant money to modernize their library, while Martin Murphy will install a new digital marquee on the corner of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Avenida Espana.
“We are incredibly thankful to our parents for spearheading the petition process and to our community for supporting our neighborhood schools and the students that we serve,” said Martin Murphy Principal Alex Aasen. “Being in such close proximity to each other, we work closely with Los Paseos every day, and I know both of our schools are looking forward to bringing these new improvements to campus.”
Library enhancements and the new marquee are slated to be completed by next school year.
