Margaret Virginia Shepard, 89, a longtime resident of Sunnyvale, died April 12, 2004.

Virginia was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Oklahoma. She was one of eight children. Virginia was a retired school teacher. She enjoyed tutoring special needs children. Her many hobbies included playing the piano, singing and gardening. She was an avid golfer in her later years, she also enjoyed traveling and was a longtime member of a church quilting group.

In her earlier years, while ranching in Colorado, she was a champion for improving the water system and the education of children in the area.

Virginia was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Sunnyvale and will be missed by all in her community.She is survived by four sisters and a brother; children Shary Goulart of Morgan Hill, Martha McClelland of Lexington, Mich.; Calvin Lamberson of Twain Harte, Carl Lamberson Jr. of Reno; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A visitation with family and friends takes place 5-8 p.m. today, April 16, at Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial service takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Mission City Memorial Cemetery in Santa Clara on April 19.
