A 19-year-old Stockton man was arrested and taken to County Jail early Sunday morning after allegedly roughing up his girlfriend and threatening her.
Damian Reyes was charged with kidnapping, domestic battery causing traumatic injury, false imprisonment, brandishing a weapon and domestic battery.
According Morgan Hill Police, Reyes is a “known member” of the Gilroy Sureno gang “Calle Ocho.” He is not on probation or parole, however.
Reyes’ girlfriend, an 18-year-old female from the Stockton area, ran into the Microtel Inn on Condit Road at approximately 1:15am Sunday. She asked the clerk to call the police, explaining that she had just escaped from her boyfriend and he was looking for her.
The woman told officers she and Reyes were on their way to Gilroy on U.S. 101 to visit friends. While driving, they had an argument about another man. The victim said Reyes became enraged and slapped her. As they exited onto 10th Street in Gilroy, the victim jumped out of the pickup they were riding in while it was still moving, attempting to escape. She was scraped as she hit the pavement, injuring her back, buttocks and elbow.
Reyes then grabbed her by the hair, she told police, dragged her back to the pickup and forced her inside. He allegedly threatened her with serious injury if she tried to escape again.
The couple did not stay long in Gilroy, the victim said, but returned to Morgan Hill to the Comfort Inn on Condit Road to stay the night. She told police she stayed with Reyes because she was afraid he would beat her if she tried to leave. The argument began again, she said, and Reyes pulled out a knife with a 2-.5-inch folding blade and waved it at her, asking her if she knew what it felt like to “get stuck.”
When Reyes left the room to visit friends in Gilroy, the victim ran across the street to the Microtel Inn and asked the clerk to call police. She apparently wanted to be out of the Comfort Inn when he returned. When Reyes returned to the Comfort Inn, officers were waiting for him. He was arrested without incident.
The knife was recovered at the scene.
The victim did not request treatment for her injuries.
