Dear Editor,

I have been following the 15th District state Senate race between Assemblyman Abel Maldonado and Peg Pinard and attended several candidates debates to listen and understand their main platform and issues.

As a former council member and mayor of Morgan Hill, I am sensitive to local political issues and how these candidates past political decisions would affect the future financial stability of our city.

Morgan Hill, like many cities, will struggle to provide essential services to their citizens. I do know that Abel Maldonado has experience on the city council and served as mayor in Santa Maria and understands what it takes to keep a city in a responsible fiscal position so public health and safety are secured for the citizens.

He has continued his close understanding of local government with a great record in the Assembly protecting cities finances from Sacramento.

Assemblyman Maldonado is one of our biggest supporters of measure 1A in Sacramento which will not allow Sacramento to take our hard earned money through property tax and sales tax revenues. A yes vote on 1A safeguards us from the tax and spend politicians who take away our cities’ money at the detriment of health and safety of our families and children.

Please join me on Nov. 2 to vote Yes on Proposition 1A and a vote for your representative, Abel Maldonado, for state Senate.

Lorraine Barke, Morgan Hill
