Aquatics Center, the Makos Swim Club is now set to host the first
swim meet in its brand spanking new digs this weekend. The Makos
will host a tri-meet on Saturday with the Santa Cruz Aquatics and
the Slug Aquatics.

The Makos will host a tri-meet on Saturday with the Santa Cruz Aquatics and the Slug Aquatics.
The meet, which is set to begin at 9 a.m., is expected to draw about 150 swimmers aged 6-18 competing in a variety of individual and relay events.
This will be the Makos’ first meet of the summer season, and the team has already been awarded bronze medal status by USA Swimming for the 2004-05 season.
Top swimmers include brothers Thomas Dunn and David Dunn, who have both already qualified for sectionals and have an outside shot at making the Olympic trials.
The Makos have about 160 local kids on the team this summer, with about 20 more from San Martin, Gilroy and San Jose.
The team is scheduled to host another tri-meet on July 25 with the Barracuda Aquatics and the Cabrillo Threshers.
The Makos will also play host to the Coast Valley Aquatics League championships Aug. 6-8 at the Aquatics Center.
About 800 swimmers from nine area teams will compete at the three-day event, which includes a trials and a finals session.
The Makos have represented the local community in USA Swimming for more than 41 years. Head coach Edward Toately, who has thirty years of experience coaching swimming and water polo, has the highest coaching certification level possible at level 5.
Tryouts for the Makos swim team, for kids aged five and older, are held Monday through Friday at the Aquatic Center’s 50-meter Olympic-sized pool at 5:30 p.m. The cost ranges from $75 to $90 per month depending upon placement, and annual insurance is required.

Morgan Hill Water Polo will host a shooting clinic featuring U.S. Olympic water polo players at the Aquatics Center on June 27.
And, the Morgan Hill Aquatics Foundation will hold its 3rd Annual Cool Brews for Cool Pools Festival on July 24 at the Morgan Hill Community Center Amphitheatre.
The event will feature three bands, stand-up comedy, a kids zone, 20 microbreweries, wine tasting, food vendors, and an appearance by SJ Sharkie, the San Jose Sharks’ mascot.
In addition, the Aquatics Foundation is still conducting its donor brick sales program at the Aquatics Center until all 2,000 bricks have been purchased and engraved.
