Dear Editor,
I have lived in Santa Clara County for over 40 years and 7 in Morgan Hill.
It seems that Animal Control for Santa Clara County and San Jose has always been a big concern. Obviously with the opening of the new “big” Animal Shelter in San Jose on Monterey this shows what a big concern it has been and obviously with a “big” new shelter it shows how “big”the solution had to be.
Now, with South County, Morgan Hill, San Martin, Gilroy and the surrounding areas probably have more concerned and active participants in trying to remedy the overpopulation, uncared for and adoption of animals than anywhere else in the county.
This would be a nonproductive in just what exactly we are trying to achieve here. If some of the bigger cities and communities would learn from the South County area, we would probably get a better grip on this situation.
Now, because the South County area is so headstrong, active and truly dedicated to controlling abused, discarded, overpopulation and relocation of pets, we should get a little support…. No! A lot more support since we are not only doing our part, but doing a big part of what other areas should be doing.
I strongly believe that Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin should be grouped together as a South County entity and have the support it needs. It would save money in the long run and probably get more volunteers on board to all work toward the same goal.
I truly believe this would be a very proactive decision to support our area in whatever is needed. South County should be an example of what is needed throughout the county, and not punish us by closing the shelter for even “one” day, but support us instead and help us to achieve the same goal.
That’s what being a team is all about. We need to work as a team if we want to win!
