Dear Editor,

Once again there is good news coming from Machado School.

As reported earlier in The Times, Leadership Morgan Hill Class 2004 chose the old Machado School as their project for the year. Their aim was to improve the facilities to make the old site more attractive for community use. This, the class has done with vigor and in grand style – complete interior and porch painting – installation of display cases – improved table and chair storage – door repairs – landscaping – color brochures – new wooden picnic tables – establishment of a web site – even the old school bell rings once more.

All of this was followed by a successful fund-raiser on a hot Saturday afternoon. The leadership class and its donors deserve much credit for a job well done.

A second bit of good news is that a new portable classroom building has been delivered to the Machado site. This has been made possible not only through cooperative efforts on the part of the School District and the Board of Trustees, but also loyal friends of the Machado School Heritage Society who have already made donations of time, equipment and labor to make the project possible; but also pledges of the same to add the finishing touches not covered by District funding.

We are hopeful and excited to think that before long children’s voices will once again be heard daily at the Old Machado School – as they have since 1895.
