Several fine individual performances highlighted the Live Oak High’s track and field team’s Tri-County Athletic League opener against visiting Hollister-San Benito on Thursday.

On the Acorn girls side, sophomore Cobbie Jones showed up long enough to blow away the field in the 1600, which was dominated by the Acorns. Teammates Daniella King and Lisa Herrera captured second and third, respectively, in the event.

Other top performances included: King’s win in the 800; Herrera’s victory in the 3200; Heather Molyneaux’s win in the 100; Elizabeth Johanson’s first in the 300 hurdles; and Azucena Atanacio’s victory in the discus. Atanacio also finished second in the shot put.

On the Acorn boys side, Billy Wong was first in the 3200 and third in 1600, while Jesus Atanacio picked up seconds in both the 800 and 1600.

Brandon Powell also took second in the 110 high hurdles for Live Oak.

The Acorns will compete in the Raymond Relays on Saturday, then take on Palma and Notre Dame at Hartnell College on Thursday next week.
