Several local students rose bright and early on Jan. 27 to travel to the Accredited Christian School International Regional Spelling Bee in San Leandro.

More than 100 students competed in the spelling excitement for students in first through fourth grade.

Given only two weeks for study, the students gave it their all. Crossroads Christian School honored all 16 participants with a recent awards ceremony.

First-grader, Jillian placed fourth, winning yellow ribbon award, and in the third grade competition Ryan placed third, earning his white ribbon award with pride. All sixteen received a certificate award for their studies. Once the last student made placement the other Crossroads students exchanged congratulations with shaking of hands and hugs.
