A 34-year-old Morgan Hill man died due to injuries he suffered in a vehicle collision in southwest Morgan Hill last week.

California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Miceli said the June 18 accident appeared to be a single-vehicle collision. The driver, later identified as Darren Dean, of Morgan Hill, was traveling eastbound in a Toyota Tacoma on Sycamore Drive “at a high rate of speed” about 9:40pm June 18, Miceli said. For an unknown reason, the vehicle drove off the roadway just west of Spring Valley Road and overturned. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt.

As a result of the collision, Dean suffered major injuries and was transported to Regional Medical Center in San Jose, according to Miceli. About 3pm June 19, Dean was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s office identified the driver on June 25.

Miceli said it is currently unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
