SALINAS – The Live Oak softball team picked up its first win in the Tri-County Athletic League when it defeated Salinas 3-1 on Tuesday in extra innings.

LIve Oak (4-10, 1-6 TCAL) used an eighth-inning surge to defeat Salinas (8-9, 26 TCAL). Catalina Rawers singled to left and stole second. Rawers went to third on a bunt by Irene Grove. The bunt was misplayed, and Rawers scored. Alyssa Adamo doubled Grove to third, and Katie Hillman hit a sacrifice fly to score Grove.

Freshman Kaitlyn Rauschnot (1-1) got the win. She recorded seven strikeouts and gave up five hits.

“She pitched a good game,” said Live Oak coach Barry McDonnell. “She threw the ball hard and was mixing up her pitches.”

The Acorns got on the board first in the fourth inning as Andrea Thrappas, who was 3-for-4, tripled. Catcher Justine McDonald laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score the run. Salinas got its run in the sixth inning.

Live Oak also had some nice defensive plays in the game. First baseman Kassandra Souza went into foul territory to catch a popup to get out of an inning. The Acorns got out of a bases- loaded jam when Rauschnot struckout out a batter, and Rawers came up with a nice play to end the inning.

Live Oak will play in the Watsonville Tournament, opening up on Saturday against Hillside at 12:30 p.m. and then playing Palo Alto at 6 p.m. The single-elimination round is on April 26.
