After completing a standout year that saw them win a pair of titles and ascend to the top level of area high school ice hockey, the Live Oak High Acorn hockey team is raring to go for the fall season.

Play starts up again in September, and the Acorns are looking to replace a few key graduated seniors with capable players.

LO’s three seniors – goalie Michael Anvari, defender Matt Edgar and forward Sean Gullery – each played large roles in the team’s success, and the Acorns are especially in need of a solid player between the pipes to replace Anvari.

However, the team has a solid returning core of players, including Dustin Holt, Robert Kotval, Ricky Lasher and Chase Norman, who will be seniors next season, and Scott Alexander, Brian Costello, Kyle Dutra and Conner Williamson, who will all be juniors next season.

Those players helped LO go undefeated last fall en route to a Division III title, then win seven of eight matches to finish second in Division II during the winter season.

After moving up to Division I for the spring season, the Acorns struggled a little, winning just one of eight matches and falling in the first round of the playoffs.

But the team was encouraged by its rapid rise to the top, a trend it hopes to continue next season.

LO students and area home-schoolers interested in playing for the Acorn hockey team next year can inquire by email to li***********@***oo.com
