Future Farmers of America members from the Morgan Hill FFA chapter attended a Regional Leadership conference Oct. 10 and 11 where nearly 250 other students, all involved in the FFA, united at the 2009 South Coast Region FFA, Chapter Officer Leadership Conference in Hollister.
The FFA is an organization that promotes premier leadership, personal growth, and career success, and this is just what everybody who attended this two-day conference gained. At this annual event, students attended various workshops, which serve to encourage and motivate these leaders to return to their schools with a new outlook on life and a positive attitude with their new ideas.
We also had the opportunity to listen to various keynote speakers such as Levy Randolph, the past State FFA Sentinel from the Hemet FFA who is California’s National FFA officer candidate. He was also joined by the State and Regional FFA leaders who attended to help make this conference one to remember. The conference would not be complete however without the Saturday night program in which the different schools had a chance to perform a lip sync routine, and a dance to help liven the crowd.
The many workshops and activities taught elected leaders to have a positive attitude and influence, as well as to stay away from negative aspects of society, such as drug abuse, low self-esteem, and racism.
“This conference was truly a unique experience where people from different communities and backgrounds were able to come together not only to learn, but to have a good tim,” said Hadyn Clement, regional FFA president,
With the knowledge learned from this conference, FFA members gained a new outlook on life, which will definitely make an impact on their lives and the society around them.
Attending the conference were Live Oak High students Jessica Waller, Amanda Davenport, Nicole Dronek, Abrianna Robles, Ashley Jenkins, and Jonathon Furtado, along with their FFA advisors Erin Larrus and Kendra Lewis, who participated in a professional development meeting Sunday.
