Diego Rios and Ivan Ramirez had assists for Santa Teresa (5-2, 1-0), and Tyler Grieve and Devon Canales combined for four saves.

Alexis Diaz scored for the visiting Acorns with an assist by Andrew Whitling.

Live Oak (3-1-2, 0-1) resumes league play at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Independence.

  • Sobrato dropped its first league game as well Tuesday, losing 2-0 to Overfelt in a rematch from last year’s Central Coast Section Division II first round.

The Bulldogs were making their Mount Hamilton Division debut.

Overfelt (4-2-1, 1-0) spoiled it with goals by Juan Carlos Bugarin and Alberto Unzuetta – one in both halves. Bugarin had an assist as did teammate Brandon Cedillo.

Sobrato (1-5-1, 0-1) will go for its first win in more than a month at 3:15 p.m. Thursday against visiting Yerba Buena.

WRESTLING

Sobrato overcame a 27-0 deficit to beat Evergreen Valley 39-33 Tuesday in their first Santa Teresa Division dual.

The Bulldogs rallied ahead with 30 consecutive points on pins by Steve Canela (113 pounds), Bryan Gomes (126), Daniel Johnson (132) and Thomas Burback (138).

The Cougars regained the lead, 33-30, with Reymond Dacanay’s fall at 145 pounds. Zach Zhang tied it with a 9-4 victory over Evergreen Valley’s Kelvin Huynh at 152, setting up a decisive pin by Sobrato’s Brandon Lefore (160) in the final match.

The Bulldogs wrestle in the Apple Cider Invitational this weekend and will visit Leland at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jacquelin Foggiato scored a season-high 10 points, but the Sobrato Bulldogs lost 54-28 to visiting Branham on Tuesday on opening night in the Santa Teresa Division.

The Bulldogs also received nine points from Jessica Westall, three from Jordan Smith and Gabrielle Smith, two from Avery Conforti and one from Tauheedah Id-Deen.

The Bruins (5-6, 1-0) led 29-17 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter while holding Sobrato scoreless.

The Bulldogs (3-8, 0-1) were coming off a 38-34 victory against Overfelt in a Dec. 30 nonleague game at Sobrato High School.

Jordan Smith had a team-high 15 points, including four 3-pointers, and Westall went for 11 points for SHS, which overcame a seven-point deficit after the first quarter.

Sobrato pays a visit to Silver Creek at 7 p.m. Thursday.
