The Live Oak basketball team knew nothing would come easy in the Tri-County League.
After losing at Salinas 62-46 on Tuesday, Live Oak rebounded to defeat Palma 53-45. Salinas also knocked off Hollister 78-54 to shake up the league a little. Both Live Oak and Palma have 2-2 TCAL records.
The Acorns got six treys Thursday night. Joel Wright had three, Scott Moquin had two and Miles Curley had one. Moquin and Curley had 15 points each to lead the Acorns.
The Acorns were up 34-15 at the half, but the Chieftains got within three in the fourth quarter, before Live Oak hit a three and made some key shots.
On Tuesday, Salinas point guard Drew Sanchez deposited 27 points. Maciek Bratkowski was the high scorer for the Acorns with 13 points.
It was only the second time Live Oak has given up more than 60 points this year. The Cowbows started off quickly with a 19-4 first quarter.
The Acorns battled their way back to within four points early in the third quarter.
Live Oak will take on the scrappy Gilroy team at Gilroy on Tuesday. Although the Mustangs have had an offseason, they still are a serious threat.
