Another nutty week at Live Oak High School has passed, and Halloween has once again come and gone. It was a fairly regular week up until Friday.
It wasn’t only Halloween dress-up day, but also a very big game for our Live Oak football team. Students and staff filled the halls with fun and creative costumes waiting for that Halloween costume contest during lunch. The quad was packed with students and staff there to watch the event. There were so many participants who wanted to win that first place prize, the activity took every minute of lunch to see all the costumes. Live Oak definitely has some creative Acorns!
After the fun and exciting day, it was time to get serious for our football players. Unfortunately, our boys lost to Palma, but they played a very good game. They held their heads high, and now look forward to the upcoming games against Hollister and Gilroy. Both games are away. If you haven’t gone to a game yet, be sure to get to these before our season ends. These boys have made an amazing come back and work very hard. So be sure to get out and support your nuts!
I am very proud to be an Acorn, but after what I experienced Saturday, I can now say I am more proud to be an Acorn than ever before. Saturday was Live Oak’s centennial kick-off event; our tree planting. Students, staff, alumni, council and board members, and the community gathered to plant our oak tree representing “100 years of learning.” Stories were shared from various speakers just giving a glimpse of some of their history at Live Oak.
Yes, I knew I was in the 100th graduating class at Live Oak, but I didn’t quite understand that until I shook the hand of a Live Oak alumnus from the class of 1939. After hearing stories about teachers teaching different generations, and there was a time when there was no football at Live Oak, was just a few things that opened my eyes to what an amazing school I attend. Now, when I show up to school I look at it and think how many memories were built on the same campus I walk through everyday.
I would like to thank everyone who attended to the event. It was a very memorable day. Please keep an eye out for upcoming centennial events, and all events at Live Oak for that matter. That’s about it for this week. I will leave you with one last thing: GO NUTS!!!
