Live Oak swept Sobrato in its golf match last week, taking a 49 stroke victory between the two contests.
The Acorns captured the first day at the Gilroy Golf Course 201-240 behind a 47 from Amy Gunther, who earned medals each day.
She beat out teammate Kendal Guertin by two strokes and finished ahead of Janice Kim, who shot a 50.
“I guess I finished sort of not too strong. But I pulled it together and I got two pars (Thursday) and that helped a lot. I did pretty good besides the score,” Gunther said.
Sobrato’s top finisher was Kelli DesRochers, who finished with a 51.
Live Oak followed up that effort with a 10-stroke victory at the tougher Coyote Creek Golf Club.
Gunther led all golfers with a 50, finishing two strokes ahead of teammates Guertin and Kim.
She was bumped up from No. 3 or 4 on the team to the first spot because of her strong play.
Gunther said her season start was slow as she juggled basketball and golf, but she started taking her coach’s advice and things started to click.
“Getting back into it is sort of hard. but once you get right into it, it’s just good,” Gunther.
DesRochers was also the top Sobrato finisher, shooting a 53 at Coyote Creek on Sept. 26.
That day, the girls were fighting darkness as they approached the ninth hole.
The lead group of Guertin, Gunther, DesRochers and Kelly Ishida had a tough par 3 eighth as all four golfers struggled to get up and down on the tough green.
“I think it was the location of the pin kind of made it difficult, it was a down hill lie,” DesRochers said.
Although the par 3s were giving people problems, Kim had a shot to remember on No. 4 at Coyote Creek.
Kim’s tee shot landed inside a foot of the hole allowing an easy birdie putt.
That hole was giving people problems because it plays a tree right off the tee to the left, forcing golfers to go right where a deep bunker comes into play alongside the green.
Kim’s shot threaded the needle down the middle, handing in front of the cup and getting Live Oak coach Mike Robino visibly excited as he pointed out the shot.
Live Oak’s Frances Giba rounded out Live Oak at Gilroy with a 55 and a 60 at Coyote Creek.
For Sobrato, Allison Ansboro shot a 62 at Gilroy followed by Alyssa Kern with a 65.
Kern tied DesRochers at Coyote Creek with a 53 followed by Ansboro with a 54 and Ishida with a 64.
Live Oak is taking on Leland this week, which started on Tuesday.
Kim was the top finisher for the Acorns, shooting a 50 at Gilroy.
Live Oak lost the series opener, however, 173-221.
Leland’s Nicole Winiecki shot a one over 37  as no one on Leland shot above 50.
Guertin shot a 53 for Live Oak, followed by 59s from Gunther and Giba.
The Acorns finished up their match on Thursday.
