San Jose – The Live Oak roller hockey team split a pair of games this weekend, beating St. Lawrence 11-8 on Friday and losing on Saturday to Wilcox 13-5.
The game against St. Lawrence was a close, aggressive affair. Junior goalie Kyle Rosenzweig, along with a solid performance from the Acorns defense, was critical to their win. Working together on offense and scoring for Live Oak were seniors Brian Costello with five goals and Kyle Dutra with four goals and four assists.
Adding to the attack were senior Tyler Damron and junior Michael Widergren with a goal each, both on Dutra assists. Senior defender Scott Alexander provided assists on two of Dutra’s goals.
On Saturday night with the Live Oak Bay Cruise event going on, the team headed back up to Rollin Ice to face off against Wilcox with half their team suited up.
Wilcox was able to take advantage of the Acorns having only five available players and beat Live Oak 13-5.
Dutra scored three goals for the Acorns with an assist from senior Conner Williamson. Williamson added two goals to the scoreboard off assists from Dutra.
Also, strong on the rink were juniors Ryan Listol, Kyle Widergren and freshman Christian Simonsen. Rosenzweig fought hard in the net against Wilcox’s persistent attack.
Live Oak was defeated last Friday night by the Division 1 Pioneer team 11-6.
The game started off with a goal from Costello before Pioneer responded with a goal of their own.
The scoreboard bounced back and forth, remaining close a good portion of the game until it read 4-4. Then Pioneer scored seven consecutive goals. Live Oak finished off the game with the final two goals.
Rosenzweig made a key contribution in the net. He made considerable saves to keep the Acorns in the game. Dutra scored three goals, Alexander and Michael Widergren added goals and Williamson had an assist.
Live Oak is off until Oct. 27 when it will face off against some former teammates as it heads up to San Jose to play Sobrato for the first time.
