Steenhuis among seven Argos to earn All-Conference accolades

The Notre Dame de Namur men’s soccer team capped of the 2007 season with seven players receiving All-PacWest honors, including freshman Sheldon Steenhuis, a 2007 Live Oak graduate, being named Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Argos placed three players on the First Team, two on the Second Team and had two more named Honorable Mention after finishing second in the conference with a 6-4 record.
In addition to earning Goalkeeper of the Year honors, Steenhuis was also named First Team All-PacWest along with Andres Caballero and David Wulff.
Midfielders Emmanuel Vasquez and Dorian Virrueta garnered Second Team honors while juniors Carlos Lopez and Sean Vogt received Honorable Mention status.
Steenhuis performed well in his 12 games for NDNU this year. He wound up with the second-highest save percentage in the PacWest (.760), a stellar 1.41 goals against average to also rank second, and finished second in the conference with three shutouts.
Senior forward Andres Caballero (Camarillo, Calif./Rio Mesa High School) was the chief offensive threat for NDNU in 2007. He led the Argos in scoring with 19 points on nine goals and one assist and finished second in the conference in goals. Caballero also ranked third in the conference in points, seventh in points per game (0.95), third in goals per game (0.45) and was second in the league with four game-winners. He was at his best in conference play, registering six goals in 10 PacWest games.
Junior defender David Wolfe (San Jose/Wilcox High School) helped anchor an Argonaut defense that finished second in the conference in goals against average (1.36), goals allowed (28) and shutouts (6).
Juniors Carlos Lopez (Santa Monica/Santa Monica) and Sean Vogt (Fresno/Clovis West) each turned in impressive debut seasons for the Argos. Lopez appeared in all 20 games and finished with two goals and three assists. Vogt made 17 starts on defense and also chipped in three goals, two of which were game winners.
The Argos concluded the 2007 season with a 10-9-1 record but went 6-2 in their final eight games to capture second place in the Pacific West.
