The Live Oak Foundation, a community organization founded to promote academic excellence in the Morgan Hill Unified School District, distributed $45,000 in grant money for the 2015-16 school year.
Libraries at each of the 14 MHUSD schools benefited from the LO Foundation’s library grant program, which delves out funds to the individual sites based on student enrollment. This year, the library grants totaled $22,450.
In addition, the LO Foundation handed out three specific grants:
—$5,100 to the Live Oak Future Farmers of America for their garden project;
—$7,450 to Martin Murphy/Los Paseos Technology Center for Z-STEM and 3-D Printer; and
—$10,000 to Paradise Valley Elementary School for the new engineering focus academy.
Community members sit on the Board of Directors for the LO Foundation and volunteer their time and expertise for the benefit of district students, according to MHUSD officials. The mission of the foundation is to fund programs and materials that are not provided through regular district sources. Over the past 33 years, the LO Foundation has awarded over $850,000 in grants to MHUSD classrooms and programs.
The LO Foundation was recently given special recognition by the Board of Education for being “a strong advocate of educational excellence,” as described on the Jan. 12 agenda.
“On behalf of the students, staff and Board of Education, we express our gratitude to the Live Oak Foundation for their generous support of student learning in Morgan Hill Unified School District,” the agenda item read.
