Twenty-five members of the Live Oak High School
’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) took part in a the
FBLA Bay Section Leadership Conference, the first level of
competition for 2004, hosted by Monta Vista High School.
Twenty-five members of the Live Oak High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) took part in a the FBLA Bay Section Leadership Conference, the first level of competition for 2004, hosted by Monta Vista High School.
The conference featured business-related workshops, elections of Bay Section officers for the 2004-05 school year, and competitions which yielded positive results for Live Oak.
The following were the winners in individual competitions: Kim Wakastuki, first in Job Interview, Tiffany Shyuan, first, FBLA Principles and Procedures and fifth in Creed; Elaine Liu, second, Word Processing I and fourth in FBLA Principles and Procedures; Derek Chan, third, Office Procedures; Erica Rianda, third, FBLA Principles and Procedures; Brent Hatakeyama, fourth, Public Speaking I; Chris Burnham, fourth, Introduction to Business and fourth in Computer Concepts, Roger Alcaraz, sixth, Word Processing I; and Gina Almerido, sixth, FBLA Principles and Procedures.
The results in team competitions included Christ Botros, Jonathan Kamei and Yige Wang, sixth in Entrepreneurship and Nick Matsumoto, Liman Tam, and Kent Wu in Parliamentary Procedures.
The delegates elected sophomore Elaine Liu as the vice president of Bay Section for the 2004-05 school year. Derek Chan was her campaign manager together with the Live Oak members.
The keynote speaker was a Live Oak almumnae Tina Shen, the former California FBLA State President, who gave her insights on how FBLA played an important part in her life as she attended Santa Clara University, majored in accounting and minored in economics, and is now a CPA with Ernest & Young.
Workshops featured business professionals who gave a glimpse into the reality of the business climate and what it takes in order to succeed. They included Forget the Corporate Ladder, take the Elevator, Leadership in the 21st Century; A productive eight weeks: Ways to Improve Your Life during Summer Vacation; Making Money Eating Donuts; and Wake up: The Outsource Reality.
