Matt Acosta and Stephanie Armstrong were big scorers for Live Oak during its track meet Thursday at Leigh.
Acosta won the shot put and discus to lead the boys, who were edged 63-62. Meanwhile, Jullard Robinson was first in the 100 and third in the high jump; freshman Xavier Gonzales was first in the 800; Nic Muhn was first in the 300 hurdles; Josh Levy was second in both the 800 and 1,600; and Mark Cedeno was second in the long jump.
For the girls, who lost 66-58, Armstrong won the 100 hurdles and was second in both the 300 hurdles and high jump. Ericka Rodriguez won the 100, Pauline Olsen won the 800, and Olivia Duran was second in both the 1,600 and 3,200.
The Acorns host Willow Glen at 3:30pm Thursday.
Sobrato succeeding
The Bulldogs are off to a solid start with the boys at 2-0 and the girls at 1-1.
The boys have been led by sprinters Eric Woodruff, Matt Cavanaugh and Marqus Crawford. Alan Rios and Jaime Inouye have been strong in the distances.
Among the girls, distance runners Abbi Deveraj, Amanda Conlin and Amber Masoni are doing well as are sprinters Mariah Vedder and freshman Vicky Perry. Arial Mosbrucker, Rachel Allen and Jaime Lee are tops in the field events.
For Sobrato to challenge in the Blossom Valley Athletic League, they will need the maturation of Tony Zizzo, Mark Borland, Dylan Glines, Joshua Zimmerman, Glenn Patterson and Joel Rueda, and the girls are looking to Arooj Aslam, Carmen Green and Amanda Margozzi.
The next meet is at 3:30pm Thursday when Sobrato hosts Leigh.
