Dear Editor,

The Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2009 invites all citizens of Morgan Hill and the surrounding areas to join us at our Volunteer Faire this Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Community and Cultural Center. We believe that volunteerism creates an inner strength within a community, especially during these hard economic times, and we are proud to be part of United We Serve, a national effort launched by President Obama to engage more Americans in serving their communities this summer. This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers to develop their own “do-it-yourself” projects.

At the Faire, more than 48 different agencies will be on hand to share how they are making a difference in our community. Just to name a few that will be present are the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center, the American Red Cross, Help One Child, Community Solutions and many more.

While the main purpose of volunteering is for the betterment of our community, it also provides you, the volunteer, with new learning experiences, opportunities to meet other people who share your interests, and it may even uncover a new passion. Studies have shown that people who volunteer experience a greater sense of happiness.

Our new organization, Volunteer Morgan Hill offers these opportunities for both teens and adults in Morgan Hill and beyond. The Faire is just the beginning of this new resource that will continue to match community service organizations with people that have a desire to serve Morgan Hill. For more information on the Faire or how you can make a difference today, visit our Web site at www.volunteermorganhill.org. Our hope is that through this event you will find your passion and develop a deeper connection to our community.
