Any Dem. Candidate Better Than Bush
Dear Editor,
The 9/11 Commission Report shows that any one of the Democratic candidates for president would have prevented the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, which Bush bumbling allowed to happen. None of the Democrats would endorse the profiteering of no-bid contracts which are the cornerstone of the Bush domestic and foreign policy. Not one Democratic candidate would sacrifice American lives to privatize Iraqi oil. Alan Greenspan has stated that the national debt would have been paid off in 2006 with a different monetary program than that of Bush. If any one of the Democratic candidates had been president, budget surpluses could have been used for medical care, education, even tax cuts for folks making less than $400,000 per year. Except for Regan’s friend, Ron Paul, the Republican candidates endorse the six-year, nine-month Bush program and promise more of the same!

Support for Wildfire Combatants Much Appreciated
Dear Editor,
On behalf of the Santa Clara Unit of Cal Fire and all the firefighters who fought the recent Lick Fire east of Morgan Hill I would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support during the emergency. Throughout the incident hundreds of residents and community groups contacted Cal Fire with requests to help in anyway they could.
The logistical support team that operated out of the incident base in Gilroy had a daily stream of people bringing in food and supplies for the firefighters. These acts of kindness speak volumes for the community we live in. It’s nice to know that in times of need the community responds in this manner. Firefighters coming off the fire lines observed banners hanging from overpasses and on fences thanking the crews for all their hard work. These expressions from the public mean a lot to tired firefighters who had just spent the last 24 hours fighting fire. At the height of the fire, as many as 2,100 firefighters were assigned to the fire. Cal Fire units as well as city and county fire agencies from throughout the state mobilized to combat this fire. They have all returned to their home agencies now but they leave with the knowledge that this community cares.

Dear Editor,
I was pleased to read Sal Akhter’s letter in response to spiteful column written by Cynthia Walker.
People such as Ms. Walker can only generate hatred and schism in thriving communities. I am glad that Mr. Akhter was able to refute her assertions.
