Morgan Hill Bicyclists Don’t Own The Road
Dear Editor,Â
This letter is directed to the group of bicyclists that were on Hale Avenue headed south to Morgan Hill on March 27 around 12:45pm. My wife and I were driving south on Hale Avenue and encountered this group of bikers on Hale at Llagas Road riding four and five abreast, weaving in and out of the bike lane like they owned the road and all of us non-bikers were to stop for their passage. All of the 15 or so bike riders ran the stoplight at Llagas Road and Hale Avenue like they owned the road and continued riding four abreast on this narrow country road. Traffic was light and the drivers gave a wide berth to this very rude, vulgar group of adult juveniles.
They proceeded south on Hale Avenue when my wife very politely reminded them that they need to comply with the California vehicle code and stop at designated intersections. One of the morons told my wife to get f_____ed! Nice words, real adult! By the way, the Spandex pants they all seem to wear with “Specialized Bikes” embroidered on them is “priceless” advertising for that company and send a good message to all, “wear our pants and get an attitude!”
They continued south on Hale blowing through a few more stop signs at Wright and Hale avenues and continued to run the stop light at Main and Hale avenues. Had one of you been hit for violating the rights of others, I and my wife would have given the Morgan Hill Police Department an accounting of your riding skills and been in court to testify against you. After you ran the stoplight at Main and Hale avenues you turned left on Del Monte onto First Street. At Monterey Road and First Street you tried to run the light again. Too bad you didn’t, there were a few cars headed south on Monterey Road that would have nailed you.
As you are hard to identify, you all look alike, the Morgan Hill City Council and police department should consider making it mandatory that you wear VERY LARGE numbers on your back that will provide identification to the police department so a citizen can file a complaint and a proper summons can be issued for your day in court to defend your lack of good judgment. Autos and motorcycles are required to comply with the rules of the road and have visible identification, so should you!
Every weekend you think you own the road, you don’t. I put up with you riding three, four and five abreast, running stop signs, weaving in and out of the “bike lane,” riding/splitting the line, daring motorists to hit you and cursing those who you think are usurping your perceived sole right of way. Try to grasp the simple concept of sharing the road and acting responsibly and not taking the rights of others away thinking you are above the law. You are not above the law. Â

Are We There Yet?
Dear Editor,
As President Bush himself said, “This is hard work! If this were a dictatorship, it would be a lot easier, just as long as I’m the dictator!”
Then, pausing for the perfect second, a quick innocent glance around the room and Bush offers a little insouciant calm smile.
He really said this in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 18, 2002.
For what I can see, if we’re not there yet, we are getting close to a dictatorship, as this President does not care to listen to the public or Congress. In other words, we’re snubbed and his attitude is “I know what I am doing – get out of my way and don’t tell me ‘no.’ ”
G.W. is running this country like he ran his oil companies – into the ground!
Are we there yet?
