Senior Center is an example of the good in Morgan Hill
Dear Editor,
Having entered the fabulous world of retirement about a year ago, my wife and I have found our lives in Morgan Hill filled with things to do. We discovered the Morgan Hill Centennial Recreation Senior Center and have found ourselves spending some time there.
In early January of this year, as a gift to the Senior Center, we offered to produce a video documentary. The 26-minute documentary includes information about the Senior Center’s many programs, services and classes, its staff and one-on-one interviews of 17 seniors responding to the question: “What does the Senior Center provide for you?” If you’re not familiar with our local Senior Center, I think you’ll be surprised at its offerings. If you’re 55 or older and not familiar with the center, you need to see this video!
By the year 2030, one out of every three Americans will be 55 or older. So, the video also covers some of the challenges facing the center in terms of its ability to support the growing number of seniors.
Seniors spend money and vote. Smart communities will see this Silver Tsunami approaching and will become aging-friendly communities that attract and retain this growing segment of the population.
The video is available online at http://www.blip.tv/file/3468170 or as a DVD from the Senior Center.

Celebrate what is right about public education
Dear Editor,
Superintendent Wes Smith has given a much needed lift to the discussion of improving education. We do need to celebrate what is right in education and put our shoulders to the wheel to help children and their teachers in the struggle to continue educational improvement.

Columnist’s latest rant is full of falsehoods
Dear Editor,
The Tuesday April 13 column by Lisa Pampuch really is one of her worse. It is full of falsehoods. Let’s start with the fact that President Obama was elected without racial rhetoric during the campaign. The racial references came after he was elected, mainly from the mainstream left. Any discussion of his socialist agenda was called a racist attack from the right. Please provide evidence of any racial slur appearing by right wing protests. They don’t exist. If it did, it would be on YouTube and all over the liberal news channels. And it is not.
I have been around a long time and in my household and extended family we did not direct any discrimination at anyone for the sexual orientation, religious views or the color of their skin. We do have a system in this country called free elections and if she wants to travel to Mississippi and get involved in the school prom night, so be it.
Now, please provide a list of the industries that are not providing equal pay, not just an Association of University Woman list. University and college professors pay is equal irrespective of gender. I have been a president of a public company, vice president of three others, all in the electronics industry and not one had a policy directed toward a reduction in pay based on gender. Just go to the library and get John Stossel’s book, “Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity,” turn to page 40. He addresses this issue much better and in more detail than I can provide. Lisa just throws out numbers, how about $500,000 for example of how much income is lost due to gender discrimination. If this was true, companies could just hire woman and reduce payroll 24.5 percent.
Why would we celebrate the fact we have a black president? What does this matter? If John McCain had selected Condi Rice instead of Sarah Palin, we might be looking at a black woman as our next president. Now are we supposed to celebrate that younger people are more tolerant of their gay and lesbian peers, etc.? How would she know? I do not know of one person who discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, where is this? Our president’s definition of marriage is between a man and a woman.
The name-calling is horrible and most from the left. Don’t think so, go on YouTube and look up comments from Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi.
