Just let us celebrate our holiday without political correctness

Dear Editor,

Since my “Burt’s Bits” article, “God is a part of our American culture” of a few weeks ago caused such a stir, I would like to explain what prompted my thought. The situation occurred as a “Merry Christmas” was offered to a store clerk, who responded, “No, we say ‘Happy Holiday.'”

I believe my detractors missed my point. I believe we, Christians, are the majority religion in this country. And, although all religions are equal in this country, please remember that even in elections, majorities win. So, my article just requested that if you don’t like our majority religion, then please have the decency to let us celebrate our festivities.

And, to my supporters: Charles Wilcox, Frank Gardner, Sandra Headley, Tim Brewer, Rosemary and Kyle Haynes, the Pastor of Shadow Mountain Baptist Church, as well as many others, “Thanks for your support.” Oh! Happy Easter!

Only one of 12 on ATWC panel can see the writing on the wall

Dear Editor,

A series of civic leaders were polled about their satisfaction of President Obama’s progress. Of the 12, only one, a medical doctor, could see the handwriting on the wall regarding our runaway spending and our rapid drift toward socialism and the obliteration of the free enterprise concept that made this such a great country. Our President ridicules the United States in his speeches, wants to take guns away from the public in violation of our Bill of Rights, and on and on.

However, the single biggest disaster is the incredible spending binge the government is on, and the only way they can pay for it is to keep printing more ‘funny money.’ This has happened many times in history, for the most recent example look at Zimbabwe. They printed so much money that the currency collapsed and the country and its residents are now destitute.

Can it happen here? You bet. The inflationary spiral has already started and will get worse as they keep printing more funny money. One report I just read said that we have printed 2 trillion dollars in the past year and the value of the U.S. dollar compared to metals, minerals, and foreign currencies is dropping like a rock. No government in the world has ever gone as deep into debt as we have and survived. May God help us: our leaders in Washington don’t seem to be doing it or even comprehending what is going on.

Perhaps the good doctor will run for office, I will vote for him!

Massive taxpayer fraud and waste in public transportation agencies

Dear Editor,

The Las Vegas monorail is facing bankruptcy – a likely sign of things to come for the California Bullet Train? It was going to be “profitable.” Yep. “Profitable” for the promoters, builders, and operators. But a blood-sucking bankruptcy for taxpayers.

And as for the Valley Transportation Authority, if we put the VTA into bankruptcy now, then we could avoid the bankruptcy experience of City of Vallejo for our city, and Santa Clara County. Cut the malignant tumor out now, and save the core government from insolvency.

Legislation carried in the state Senate by then State Sen. Bruce McPherson permits bankruptcy separately by transit agencies rather than the whole county seeking bankruptcy protection.

We ought to take advantage of the legislation and protect the taxpayers from the VTA’s mass lunacy with mass transit boondoggles.

By the way, the nation’s third largest trucker is “on the verge of bankruptcy.” So, if private-sector carriers cannot make a profit, bankruptcy is the outcome. But if VTA or some other joint authority cannot make a profit, it’s “stick it to the taxpayers a little deeper” time. Why the double standard?

“What should government do, and what should it leave to others?” said former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta. Good question.

Obamacare bill full of ‘prostitution’

Dear Editor,

Ashley Dupre is an amateur. She only charges $4,000 per visit. Prostitution has moved from dingy streets in bad neighborhoods and escort services to Congress.

Sen. Mary Landrieu proudly boasts of receiving $300,000 for a single vote. Not to be outdone Sen. Ben Nelson secured an even better deal. Written into the Obamacare bill the state of Nebraska will not fund the additional Medicare costs incurred by this bill. We taxpayers will pay those costs. In fact, the bill is full of such deals to special interest groups. It is hard to show the light of day on a bill when it is voted on at 1 a.m. Prostitution is alive and thriving in the highest offices of the nation.
