My name is Mikayla McCoy and I am a 13-year-old resident of Morgan Hill. It has come to my attention that a bike lane for Sunnyside Avenue has been in the planning for a long period of time.

I live right off of Sunnyside; all the people who live right off of Sunnyside would greatly benefit from a bike lane. Currently, Sunnyside is a two lane road on which cars are going about 40 miles per hour. The shoulder on either side is not wide enough for people to safely walk or bike.

Another alternative would be extending the bike lane that winds by Paradise Park. Off of Sunnyside, there is a shared driveway also with the name of Sunnyside. The path reaches to behind the fence of the shared driveway. However, the last part of the path is not paved and has thorns that would slice bike tires.

If it was paved, people could walk on it. People who live off of Sunnyside are extremely close to many amenities and could walk or bike if there was a bike lane or bike path extension.

I hope the Morgan Hill Times will join me in asking the city of Morgan Hill to act. If enough people request a bike lane or bike path extension, we can do something about it!
