Hopefully, a lot of you got out to CordeValle Golf Club last week or at least watched the Frys.com Open on TV. What a great event for South County.
What always stands out when I watch the best players in the world up close is the established preshot routine they have for every swing. This routine is what keeps everything consistent.
Most golfers let their emotions get the best of them. When a hole is not going well, they tend to rush through it, simply trying to get it out of the way. This often compounds things – and escalates the score.
From watching the pros, it is evident you can’t tell whether they are 5-under par or 5-over. Their demeanor and routine never changes.
Take a tip from them and establish your pre shot routine. Take the same amount of time on a double bogey putt as a birdie putt. They all count as one stroke more or less if you make it or miss. Check out the terrain on your chip shots. All these preshot ideas help lower your score and give you a sense of purpose on each shot, instead of just swinging the club and hoping it goes where you want it to go.
