Because Downtown recycling containers for bottles and cans resemble trash receptacles people often insert non-recyclable material into them. The project seeks to distinguish Downtown containers by painting, installing specialized lids, and displaying themed public art on each recycle receptacle to inspire proper recycling.

Local artists can share their talents by creating an art piece featuring a recycling message with the theme of “Morgan Hill Recycles.”

A maximum of fifteen entries will be selected from submissions. There is no cost to participate in the project. Artist must submit their ideas for a recycling container by hand to the Gallery Morgan Hill by July 13. No slides or prints will be accepted.

Selected artists will have permanent recognition for their contribution as their name and contact information will be prominently displayed on the newly improved receptacles. Lastly, contributing artists will receive appreciation awards during the unveiling of the project ceremony.

Thomas Kinkade Inc. also is donating their expertise to reproduce the winning art and convert them to posters for display.
