Gavilan College Athletic Director Ron Hannon announced Thursday
that, due to the busy schedules of many players, the Gavilan
College women’s softball team would not complete the season, but
would withdraw from the remaining four games.

Out of consideration to the opposing teams and the rest of the
conference, we are withdrawing from the remaining games this
season.

Hannon said.

Some of the women are juggling jobs and children as well as
their classes. I appreciate the fact that students with so many
responsibilities were willing to take on another committment, but
in the end it’s not fair to the other teams.

Gavilan College Athletic Director Ron Hannon announced Thursday that, due to the busy schedules of many players, the Gavilan College women’s softball team would not complete the season, but would withdraw from the remaining four games.

“Out of consideration to the opposing teams and the rest of the conference, we are withdrawing from the remaining games this season.” Hannon said. “Some of the women are juggling jobs and children as well as their classes. I appreciate the fact that students with so many responsibilities were willing to take on another committment, but in the end it’s not fair to the other teams.”

College President Steve Kinsella added that “while it is a disappointment that the team will not be able to finish the season, it is the right thing to do.”

While some players have been present at all the games this season, several games have had to be cancelled because not enough players were available to participate, and it was uncertain whether enough players would be available to play remaining games. All of the players on the team have been notified of the decision.

Hannon said the decision will affect the remaining games this season, but not the program as a whole.

“We remain committed to a successful women’s softball program,” Hannon said. “It’s not about winning or losing, but about being committed and consistent in what we do.”

Gavilan had road games at West Valley, San Jose City and MPC, and a home game against Hartnell, remaining on the regular season schedule.
