Palo Alto – Morgan Hill’s Trevor Beardon broke a 40-yard touchdown run on the second play of the fourth quarter to score the game’s first points and the Morgan Hill Junior Pee Wee Raiders went on to beat Palo Alto 12-0.

Alex Della Maggiore and Brandon Sorce both provided key blocks to spring Beardon on the long touchdown run.

The defense took over from there. Oscar Zuniga delivered three sacks and two key solo tackles and recovered a fumble to lead the effort. Mitch Crowley forced a fumble and had a sack and Tommy Naranjo had one and a half sacks and four other tackles.

Nathaniel Batad provided two key tackles, one stopping a run and another coming on a kick return. Della Maggiore added a spectacular defensive play when he deflected a pass away from a wide open receiver to kill a late rally for the second week in a row.

Beardon added a 21-yard touchdown run with 1:41 left in the game to put the finishing touch on the win. He finished with 81 yards rushing on five carries, while Drew Glines added 70 yards on 17 carries.

The two top backs also contributed on defense, chasing down the Palo Alto quarterback on a keeper on what appeared to be a sure touchdown.

The Raiders have not gone eight straight quarters without allowing a touchdown.

Palo Alto – The Raiders rebounded from a tough loss to earn a solid 20-6 win over Palo Alto.

Morgan Hill tallied 232 total yards, while surrendering 196, and scored twice in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Palo Alto struck first on a 52-yard reverse to take a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The score remained the same until the second quarter, when Anthony Villarreal scored from one yard out to make it 6-6. Tyler Lerma set up the touchdown with a 62-yard run to put the ball at the 1-yard line.

Morgan Hill took its first lead in the fourth quarter when Lerma scampered into the end zone from 37 yards out and Villarreal scored his second touchdown of the day on a 7-yard sweep. Danny Saportio converted one of two kicks on the day.

Lerma paced the offense with 129 yards on nine carries. Deric Taylor gained 34 yards on eight touches and caught an 1-yard pass to convert a key third down.

The “Mad Dog ‘O’,” Morgan Hill’s special short yardage package, did a tremendous job. Behind the line of David Corona, Nicolas De Los Santos, Andrew Martinez, Shane Delvin, Efrain Gonzales, Paul Marahrens and Zachary Henry, running back Victor Del Rio produced plenty of key positive yards to keep drives going.

Franky Palmer led the defense with 13 tackles (three solo) and Lerma had 11 tackles (three solo). Saportio recorded eight tackles and recovered a fumble and Jerado Caro had his best game with two solo tackles and two assists. Villarreal had an interception late in the game.
